Gynecomastia

The gynecomastia is a condition affecting menIt consists of an increased development of the mammary parenchyma giving a feminine breast appearance.

Surgical indications

Its prevalence is 50% to 60% in adolescents, and more than 70% in men aged 50 to 69. It corresponds to a frequent hyperplasia of the mammary glandular tissue, which can be uni- or bilateral. It reflects a imbalance between the circulating quantity of estrogens (increase) and/or and testosterone (decrease), the breast tissue is stimulated, leading to gynecomastia. It appears most often during puberty. It is then formed a glandular nucleus behind the nipple. This nucleus can be resorbed during adolescence. It is sometimes discovered by chance, more often on the occasion of a sensitive discomfort of the periareolar region, or even a visible and painless increase of the breast in men. It is a frequent symptom, with many etiologies.

F.A.Q

It depends on the individual, but as a general rule, patients tolerate this procedure very well and do not complain of much pain.

Yes. If the component is glandular, not if fatty (aesthetic act). Please contact your health insurance company for a possible reimbursement of fees.

The tobacco is recognized as a a factor that delays skin healingwhich results in a longer healing time, increase the risk of complications and to give unsightly scars. The scientific literature agrees with this (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22566015/) and this is why I recommend to all my patients to stop smoking before a plastic surgery intervention.
