L'otoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure to correct abnormalities of the auricle ("protruding ears"), which can be a source of psychological suffering. Detached ears are most often present in childhood.
This procedure is covered by social security (CAMA013 Bilateral ear surgery)
Several anomalies exist(Figure 1):
A plicature defect (1)
A hypertrophy of the concha (2)
Excessive earlobe skin with more or less anteversion (3)
To know The final size of the ears is acquired around 7-8 years of age. We avoid operating on protruding ears during puberty because this can lead to poor healing (hypertrophic scarring). Therefore, it is recommended to operate on children between the ages of 8 and 11 or after the age of 16.

The tobacco is recognized as a a factor that delays skin healingwhich results in a longer healing time, increase the risk of complications and to give unsightly scars. The scientific literature agrees with this (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22566015/) and this is why I recommend to all my patients to stop smoking before a plastic surgery intervention.
